about

For the last three years I’ve felt more fatalistic than ever before. The unbearable lightness of being and hopelessness are constant companions in my life, and it's something I struggle to deal with.

The more I tried to ignore things around me, the more anxious I became. And it makes no seen to build an informational vacuum around yourself if the cruelness of reality keeps pulling you and your friends down.

In particular, that part of everyday reality in Russia which we call ‘police misconduct’. The shocking number of illegal searches and arrests, as well as violence, torture, and even rape which are commonplace in the modern Russian law enforcement system. Dealing with the police is always a lottery, and so no one wants to get involved. Even if it’s contact with your own father, and I say this as the son of a cop.

It just so happened that my friend - the photographer and artist, Ivan Petrokovich - while taking pictures at the protest in Moscow on 31 January this year, was faced by the noble guardians of the law. The result: several electric shocks and numerous hematomas all over his body; the judgment: 10 days in Sakharavo Detention Centre, in spite of his head injury.

Then I asked myself how can I help to change the situation in my country? I’m not a politician, not an activist. All I can do is write songs. So I came up with an idea of a charity single, because this is the least I can do as a musician and as a citizen.

I release this track to support those people who have been illegally hurt by police. All the royalties from this track will be transferred to human rights organisations that provide assistance to victims of illegal actions by Russian law enforcement agencies.

The cover art is based on Ivan Petrokovich’s photo which he took shortly before his arrest on 31 January.

lyrics

Cancellation, light out
Your might is in doubt
The violation against the mind
Always prevails as a crucial fight

Don’t hide your heart behind this armor
I have no weapon and it’s not your war
Don’t hide your eyes behind this helmet
You’re not an astronaut, don’t dress like that

Cancellation, light out

The routine is encouraged
Accept the rules and be punished
The discipline of an outrage
Follows the order to the upstage

Don’t hide your heart behind this armor
I have no weapon and it’s not your war
Don’t hide your eyes behind this helmet
You’re not an astronaut, don’t dress like that
